Baird

Christopher Patrick Baird was born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, on 25th February 1982. He is a Northern Irish international and Fulham central defender, although capable of playing on the right too.

Career[]

After growing up in Northern Irelan, Baird was signed by Southampton from local side Ballymena United, for £100,000. MAking his debut for the saints in March 2003 as a substitute, he second first team start was in the 2003 FA Cup final, where he was on the losing side against Arsenal. Although being on the losing side, Baird was voted as the man of the match. The following two season brought two loans spells to football league sides Walsall and Watford.

Upon returning to the South Coast and the newly relegated Southampton side, injuries and suspensions brought a sustained run in the side for Baird. The following season, following tremendous form at the club, he was awrded with the captains armband. The same good form brought the attention of Premier League and a move to Craven Cottage was completed in July 2007.

International[]

In June 2003 Baird made his Northern Ireland debut against Italy in a 2–0 defeat. Since then he has been a regular member of the national side, despite playing little domestically between 2003 and 2005.
