Career
Edit
Barnes made his first professional appearance for Derby county on his 17th Birthday (replacing ex-Fulham player Paul Peschisolido), having worked his way through the youth ranks at the club. Though attracting attention from numerous Premier League clubs, Barnes worked hard at Derby, eventually being rewarded with a sustained run in the side, picking up the clubs Young Player of the Year award in 2006-07. The following season, with the club back in the Premier League, though battling back from injury and performing well he was unable to stop the clubs relegation back to the Championship.
After another injury he made a handful of appearances back in the Championship before a loan move to Fulham occurred, which may be made permanent for a fee of around £4m in the summer.
Although just twenty, Barnes has already made over 80 league and cup appearances, scoring ten times.
